Get off your butt and start 2024 strong! Here’s some inspiration:

  1. Connect to your future self. I posted this visualization exercise in October; it was a profound experience and I’m resolved to practice it regularly. Yesterday I listened to the TED Radio Hour episode, Future You, which explains how our brains perceive our future selves as other people, and how that might influence our choices.

  2. Reflect on your past. What are the best things that happened in your life over the past 12 months? What experiences or moments did you enjoy the most? Write out the answers. You might be surprised at the clarity that emerges.

  3. Learn about human nature. Here I am, once again plugging Hidden Brain despite my general annoyance with its vibe. Scroll the feed and see what resonates. If you’re in a resolution-setting mood try the episode, What Would Socrates Do?

  4. Commit to 30 days of yoga. Yoga With Adriene is kicking off the year with a month of new videos. I’m going to do it this year! (Don’t be intimidated, this really is yoga for everyone.)

  5. Update your emergency information. It’s a chore, but so important. I maintain a Google doc of important information (insurance, contacts, etc.) shared with a few family and friends. Reach out if you’d like my template. If you do nothing else, check the emergency contacts on record at your doctor’s office and hospital; my outdated info caused several hours of delay and hassle when I was hospitalized unexpectedly.

  6. Start a journal. I’m so glad I started this blog; it creates space for me to reflect, document and remember. Five stars!
