Headlamp season

Winter is coming. This morning I had to don the headlamp for the first 15 minutes of my run. As the summer days shorten I’ll use it little longer each day, until I’m doing the entire run in the cold night surrounded by pairs of glowing animal eyes. This puts me in a zero-stars mood. Then I remember striking out in the dark means I’ll see amazing full moons and – for a while – sunrises. I’m lucky to live in a climate where I can run year-round. I’m fortunate to have the health and ability to run at all. And just like that, headlamp season gets five stars.
