It’s been exactly one year since the emergency surgery to remove part of my large intestine which had twisted on itself. The hours before the surgery were traumatic (blackout pain, 911, uncontrollable shaking and drifting in and out of consciousness in the hospital) but the outcome was extremely fortunate. My recovery has been smooth, with only minor, self-inflicted setbacks. I’m left with a badass scar and deep gratitude for a functioning body, modern medicine and the caring humans in my life.
