We all have weird holiday traditions, OK? This started during our trip to South Dakota in the summer of 2015, as a demonstration of young Spencer’s strength. Over the years Spencer has grown and I’ve gotten a bit scrawnier; it’s no longer a challenge. The pickup has evolved into a holiday event since that’s the most reliable time I see Susan and Spencer each year. Is it weird? Maybe. Will it be weirder when I’m 60 and Spencer is 35? Definitely. Will it keep happening? I think so.
