Renting a VRBO 30 minutes from home: Weird or Awesome? Verdict: AWESOME. The glowing reviews for this charming cottage in the redwoods near La Honda are warranted. I wanted a weekend refuge in nature, away from household chores and habits. I hiked around Portola Redwoods State Park, checked out San Gregorio State Beach (only briefly; it was chilly and water-logged); enjoyed coffee mornings and wine evenings on my private porch overlooking a babbling stream; did some yoga and some tipsy Zillow-ing; generally decompressed. 🙏
